A technological gap which frightens the Imperial High Command on Stahlvelka to no end. That being said, the long-term of these technologies are proving to be invaluable assets to the URA: they are largely immune to Imperial psionic warfare capabilities and mental probing. These were, however, hopeless endevours against the godlike Vozhd himself, and it would take the building of the Surne Cannon, the deadliest weapon in human history, before he would truly be done for. Republic scientists of the Colleges, after much trial and error, were eventually able to develop effective means of defense against the servants of the Vozhd during the latter part of the war, and turned the tide on their front. Harsh lessons were learned when Staeus Adepts of the Vozhdom of the Empyrean would time and time again successfully route or destroy Republic fleets without a shot fired. On psionics, the URA developed multiple countermeasures against mental probing and psionic warfare after the Third Galactic War. As the URA holds a general tech advantage over the Empire, their ships can fire these massive weapons at a higher rate due to better power supply, and have superior cooling systems. They will literally drown out enemy fleets in drones and supplement manned space superiority fighters, while larger worldships and carriers will "snipe" from the back with their superlasers, flanked and protected by small screens of warships. One thing to note is that while the Republic and Imperial ships can go generally pound-for-pound with each-other, the URA has greater emphasis on carrier group tactics. Space also happens to be big, and in contrast to the Empire the URA make more emphasis on speed: closing the distance, evasion, etc. The Republic Armada fights the Empire just as the Empire fights them: are tremendous distances, on the vertical plane just as much as the horizontal and all points in-between on the x,y,z axis of space. Some thoughts on in-universe logic and approach:Īs with before, most of the weapons are not scaled properly with the ships. Slightly also to distinguish the organic "shell" of these ships from their non-living interiors. URA's got green against the Stahlvelkan blue, mostly as a nod to the fact that in Universe Staeus I have them set up as the USSR to the Empire's USA, and green in-turn has a long history of use in Russia. My main inspirations came from Halo's Covenant and the Romulans from Star Trek. So organic was the approach, but I still wanted to blend it in with an inner, metal skeleton and regular bits here and there. I mused a bit on their aesthetic and techpunk in their culture profile, but basically they fancy biotech quite a bit. The Stahlvelkans got the lions share of Stellaris, Star Wars and 40K gothic, angular, blocky, "utilitarian," so I figure I'd verge away from that for the Republic. Universe Staeus has always been kinda my idea of how I'd merge the favorite scifi aesthetics and settings into one. I've finally gotten around to fleshing out the (admittedly, kinda rough) designs for the URA and their fleets which comprise the Republic Armada.
